Hi, I’m Kyla!

Registered Social Worker

Female couples therapist in Toronto Ontario sitting on a grey couch smiling.

I know from both personal and professional experience that starting therapy can feel overwhelming and even a little scary.

It takes courage to open up about your struggles, and it’s completely okay to feel uncertain about where to begin. My role is to meet you where you are, with empathy and understanding.

I’ve been working in the mental health field for over ten years, both in community work and private practice. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people as they navigate life’s many challenges - and I’ve learned that reaching out for help is one of the bravest things a person can do.

Together, we’ll take things one step at a time, exploring what’s been weighing on your mind and finding ways to move toward healing and balance. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can be a space to pause, reflect, and rediscover your sense of self. My hope is that through our work together, you’ll feel more empowered, connected, and confident in your ability to create the life you want.

Attached

by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller

  • Have you ever wondered why some relationships feel effortless while others feel like a constant push and pull? Attached dives into the science of adult attachment—the ways we connect, communicate, and seek closeness in relationships. Through real-life examples and relatable insights, Levine and Heller break down the three main attachment styles—secure, anxious, and avoidant—and help readers see how understanding these patterns can transform the way we relate to others.

I chose this book because it beautifully bridges the gap between psychology and everyday life. As a therapist, I see how much relief and clarity clients gain when they start recognizing their attachment patterns—not as flaws, but as understandable responses shaped by past experiences. Attached gives language to the things we often feel but can’t quite explain, helping us move toward relationships that feel safe, balanced, and deeply connected.

The Gifts of Imperfection

by Brené Brown

  • This book informatively invites readers to embrace their authentic selves and let go of the pressure to be perfect. Through heartfelt stories, research, and practical guidance, Brene Brown shares ten guideposts for cultivating courage, compassion, and connection. This transformative book encourages readers to live wholeheartedly - celebrating vulnerability, authenticity, and self-worth as the true sources of joy and belonging.

As a therapist, I chose to feature this book because its message aligns deeply with the work of personal growth and healing. It offers a compassionate reminder that our imperfections are not flaws to be hidden, but gifts that make us human. I often recommend it to clients who are learning to release self-criticism, embrace vulnerability, and move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.

The Seven Principles for Making a Marriage Work

by John Gottman

  • This book is a practical, research-based guide to building strong, lasting relationships. Drawing on decades of observation, Gottman identifies patterns that predict relationship success or failure and offers simple exercises to improve communication, manage conflict, and deepen emotional intimacy. The book focuses on small, actionable habits—like showing appreciation, turning toward each other instead of away, and creating shared meaning—that make a big difference over time.

I recommend this book alongside couples therapy as it helps people understand relational dynamics in a clear, non-judgmental way and gives concrete steps to strengthen connection. It is a great tool to reinforce the skills we explore in sessions, while empowering clients to independently take small, meaningful steps toward healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
